Ways to Combat Internet Pornography

Up till now, researchers have not been able to prove that pornography is the cause of sexual violence. The 1970 Presidential Commission on Obscenity and Pornography in the United States studied the effects of exposure to sexually explicit materials and the commission concluded that there were no scientifically demonstrated harmful effects of exposure to pornography. In fact, a research conducted in Denmark in the 1970’s found that there was a marked decrease in the number of sex offences committed with the increased availability of pornography. Some feminist point out that these findings are contradicted by studies showing a relatively strong correlation between pornography and rape rates in the United States. But unfortunately, according to Baron and Straus[2], that that was all that the findings showed—a correlation. They did not prove that pornography is the cause of rape. As many research on this topic were inconclusive, United States still legalizes pornography, as they still believe in the concept of freedom of expression.
